The corner of this Building was a solid, poured in place, concrete structure with a poured in place, concrete, 2nd floor. The corner concrete panels acted as shear panels for the structure.
When Northrop had a vision of constructing a new two story Lobby, capable of welcoming high Military customers and Heads of State to complement their new Sector Headquarters, they turned to Brian Construction for our forward thinking and innovative design capabilities to complete this challenging task.
In order to accomplish the majestic look the entire corner of the building and a portion of the second floor had to be removed. An innovative design of new structural steel, hidden by Architectural features, was required to maintain the structural integrity of the building. The poured in place concrete roof of this structure is actually suspended by new structural steel, above the roof, attached to a new hidden network of structural steel columns and concrete footings that replaced the shear capacities of the removed concrete walls.
The results are shown here and earned Brian Construction Contractor Of The Year recognition from Northrop
